Hey there, I’m Branko! 👋

I’m a Front-end Developer with engineering degree in Geodesy and Geomatics (GIS). My passion lies in crafting web applications that are not just functional, but also intuitive and user-friendly.

The Road That Led Me Here

My journey into web development wasn’t a straight path. I spent five years in customer support at a fast-paced startup, which turned out to be an unexpected but valuable detour. This experience gave me insights into user needs that I couldn’t have gained any other way. It taught me the value of clear communication and the importance of building features that truly resonate with users.

My engineering background in Geodesy and Geomatics might seem unrelated, but it’s actually been incredibly useful. It taught me problem-solving and gave me attention to detail that I apply to every project I tackle.

These days, I’m channeling all of this into creating web applications. I’m always looking for ways to solve real-world problems through code, focusing on building intuitive and user-friendly digital solutions.

Technical Expertise

Here are some of the technologies I work with::

  • Front-end: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React (with Jotai & Redux for state management)
  • Styling: TailwindCSS, Bootstrap
  • Static Site Generation: Astro
  • Backend: Node.js, PHP, Laravel, Pocketbase
  • Databases: SQLite, PostgreSQL with PostGIS
  • Version Control: Git, GitHub
  • Other Skills: Browser extension development, Responsive Design

Projects That Keep Me Up at Night (in a good way)

There’s something special about seeing an idea come to life. Here are a couple of projects I’ve poured my heart into:

Gorby

Gorby is a text analysis tool I created for writers, marketers, and students. It’s ad-free and privacy-focused, built with React, TailwindCSS, Jotai, Vite, and Astro. It offers features like text statistics, keyword analysis, and readability metrics. I’m still working on it, adding new features and improving existing ones.

Support Toolbox (Still in the Works)

This is an Electron-based desktop app I’m developing to help streamline customer support workflows. It includes features for managing different types of responses and commonly used texts. The idea is to make it single tool for storing and managing all things needed in day-to-day support work.

Why I Write

I write to document my journey, share tutorials based on my experiences, and reflect on the development process. I plan to dive deep into technical topics, and write about the practical side of building products. It’s my way of giving back to the developer community that’s taught me so much.

How I Might Be Able to Help

I’m always open to new projects and collaborations. Here’s what I can bring to the table:

  • Front-end Development: Building responsive and dynamic web applications
  • Browser Extensions: Creating tools that enhance productivity and streamline workflows
  • QA and Testing: Ensuring smooth user experiences
  • Documentation: Writing clear guides for users and developers
  • Customer Support Insights: Applying my support background to create user-friendly products

I’m currently available for part-time or contract work, especially long-term projects where I can really dig in and make a difference.

Life Beyond the Screen

When not immersed in code, I enjoy watching sports (Formula 1, MotoGP, and cycling), photography, fishing with dad, and gaming.

Let’s Chat!

Whether you have a project in mind or just want to geek out about web development, I’m always up for a good conversation.
